Columbia, SC – After allowing a pair of goals in their season-opening match, the Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' soccer team got downright defensive in their three matches at the Viking Cup over the weekend.
 
Despite not allowing a single goal in regulation play, the Landsharks finished the tournament 1-1-1.
 
OCA coach Mark Myers credited junior defender Emma Cosgrove for helping keeper Kailyn Whitehead post three clean sheets.
 
"She is a starting defender who also scored all three of our goals in the tournament," Myers said.
 
The Landsharks opened the tournament with a scoreless draw against Riverside but lost the match on penalty kicks when the Warriors scored on four of their five attempts while Oceanside converted on three of five.
 
Oceanside bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Dreher High with Cosgrove accounting for both goals, one in each half.
 
The defense posted another shutout in the final match of the tournament for Oceanside, but the Landsharks were unable to dent the defense of the J.L. Mann Patriots, leaving the game in a scoreless draw.
 
The Landsharks had a pair of games scheduled for this week, but their match against Charleston Collegiate School was cancelled and the match set for Friday against Chapin High was postponed.
 
With those changes, Oceanside will return to action on March 11 when they host James Island Charter at 5 p.m.
