Oceanside Collegiate Named Top Charter School

2025 Best of the Best

OCA Calendar | 7/16/2025 8:00:00 AM

Mt. Pleasant, SC – Oceanside Collegiate Academy has been selected as the Best of the Best Charter School in the Charleston area by readers of the Charleston Post and Courier and Moultrie News Readers' Choice Awards for 2025.

The annual contest received thousands of votes from readers during April and May, identifying the Best the region has to offer in hundreds of categories.

"This honor wouldn't be possible without our outstanding leadership," OCA Principal Christina Brown said. "Our unparalleled vision and commitment, guiding us and inspiring us to reach new heights. The administrative team consistently goes above and beyond, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our school and providing invaluable support to our staff, students, and families. And our Athletic Director continues to foster a culture of excellence and sportsmanship, developing well-rounded students who excel both on and off the field."

Oceanside Collegiate Academy, which will launch a new Virtual Academy this fall to reach even more area students, serves approximately 650 students in grades 9-12. During this past academic year, a total of 56 OCA students earned Distinguished Honor Roll recognition with an unweighted GPA of 4.0, another 89 were named to the Principal's Honor Roll for posting a GPA of 3.75 to 3.99 and 94 students were named to the Black & Blue Honor Roll for posting an unweighted GPA of 3.5 to 3.74.

"I also want to extend immense praise to our students," Brown said. "Their dedication to learning, their positive spirit, and their impressive achievements are the very heart of our success. They embody everything we strive for, and this award is a direct reflection of their hard work."

The result of the academic achievement from the OCA Class of 2025 was more than $10 million in earned college scholarships. Among those were 132 Life Scholarships and 13 Palmetto Fellows which is the highest scholarship honor in the state of South Carolina. Those scholarships come after 89 percent of OCA students participated in dual enrollment programs with 111 students earning between 3 and 30 hours of college credit completely free of charge.

Of those students in the Dual Enrollment program, 38 earned at least 31 hours of credit, meaning they graduated high school with a year of college already under their belts. Amazingly, 10 members of the graduating class of 2025 finished high school with an associate degree in hand.

Oceanside's students are also dedicated members of the community, with the 2025 senior class serving more than 9,400 hours of community service during their time at OCA.

Athletically, the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Class of 2025 helped contribute to 29 team state titles over their four years as Landsharks, including four consecutive titles in the sports of boys' tennis, girls' tennis and girls' soccer.

"We are so proud of this accomplishment and look forward to continuing to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students," Brown said. "Although we know all of these things are true, it is wonderful to be recognized and acknowledged."
