Brooks Barrineau

Brooks Barrineau was named Assistant Director of Athletics at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in August of 2024.

“We are excited to welcome Brooks to the Oceanside athletic department,” Athletics Director Mark Meyer said. “He comes to us as the former Director of Recruiting at Georgia Tech where his attention to detail with academic eligibility and managing multiple schedules was impressive.”

A native of Snellville, Ga., near Atlanta, Barrineau is the son of a high school football coach, so his attraction to athletics started early in life.

“My father was always my coach in every single sport growing up,” Barrineau said. “It didn’t matter if it was football, baseball, soccer or basketball, he was always there and he was always the coach. I owe a lot of my love and passion for sports to him.”

Barrineau was born for high school athletics. His mother went into labor with him on a Friday night during football season, forcing his dad to leave his teams’ game. He attended George Walton Academy in Monroe, Ga., where he played football and baseball.

“I enjoyed going through the long season and practices with all my friends,” Barrineau said. I am still best friends with a lot of my buddies from high school.”

He helped the baseball team to a region title his senior year, advancing to the state final four before losing to the eventual state champions.

After high school, Barrineau started his collegiate career at Kennesaw State, but transferred to Clemson after his sophomore year. He was a part of the Tigers’ 2018 National Championship team, and he received his Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Management in 2020.

While at Clemson, he worked in the Tigers’ football recruiting office and served in a gameday recruiting role for three seasons. After graduating from Clemson, Barrineau was hired as a Recruiting Operations Intern at Georgia Tech in the football office, receiving promotions Assistant Director of Player Personnel and then to Director of Recruiting.

During his time at Tech, he was named by On3 as a 2022 Rising Star in College Football Player Personnel.

Barrineau made the move to Charleston to follow his wife, Danielle, who is a Charleston native and a U.S. History teacher at Oceanside.

“She moved back to Charleston and started working at Oceanside after she earned her master’s degree from Clemson,” Barrineau said. “Seeing how much she loves OCA and the people who work here, I knew if I ever transitioned out of college athletics, moving to Charleston and working at OCA in some capacity would be ideal.

“OCA is an awesome place with awesome people who are all united and moving in one direction for the betterment of the students.”

The Barrineau family includes their seven-year-old dog named Rawlings.
