Oceanside Collegiate Academy

Mrs. Smit is originally from Long Island, NY, but she has quickly become a South Carolinian at heart. She has three children, one at Pinckney elementary and two at Cario Middle school, and she and her family love the low country and Mount Pleasant. 

Mrs. Smit has a B.S. of Science in chemistry and a minor in Spanish from the University of Rhode Island, an M.S. in Forensic science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and an M.S. in secondary education from Dowling College.  While in college she studied abroad in Valencia, Spain for a semester and became fluent in Spanish. 

Mrs. Smit loves to travel within the US and to other countries. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked for eight years as a forensic scientist examining hairs and fibers for the NYPD and drug evidence for the Drug enforcement administration. 

She made a career change into teaching to return to her chemistry roots but she loves sharing her forensic background and experience with her students.
