Landsharks Soccer Ranked No. 1 in Nation

Boys Soccer No. 1

Boy's Soccer | 3/31/2023 1:25:00 PM

Mt. Pleasant, SC – The most recent national boys soccer rankings were released by MaxPreps on Thursday with a new team sitting at the top of the poll.

The Oceanside Collegiate Landsharks moved up one spot, from second last week, to take over the No. 1 position in the latest spring poll. The Landsharks are currently 7-0-1 this spring, including a 2-0 victory over Academic Magnet on Tuesday. It was the first loss of the spring for the Raptors.

The MaxPreps rankings are based strictly on results. The more a team wins, the higher the ranking. The system also takes into account quality wins against other highly ranked opponents as well as strength of schedule.

The Landsharks took over the No. 1 spot in the rankings after last week's No. 1, Chapin (SC) High, dropped a 2-1 decision at River Bluff last Saturday. Chapin (10-2) plays in Region 4 of Class 5A.

In addition to holding down the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps rankings, the Landsharks current sit at No. 22 in the nation according to the United Soccer Coaches poll, which was released on Tuesday and does not include results from after March 26. That poll has Oceanside ranked third among state schools with Ashley Ridge (Summerville) sitting in the No. 2 spot with an 11-0 record while Chapin sits at No. 15.

According to the United Soccer Coaches, McIntosh High of Peachtree City, Ga., is the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Landsharks are scheduled to return to the pitch on Tuesday evening when they travel to Daniel Island to face Bishop England (5-3). The game is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start.
