Conway, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' volleyball team ran its win streak to eight consecutive matches on Monday night with a straight set victory over sister school Atlantic Collegiate Academy.

The Landsharks (10-3) outlasted the Armada (17-8-3) by holding off a strong push from the host squad in the second and third sets. Oceanside took the opening set comfortably, winning 25-13, but had to battle to win 25-22 in the second set and 26-24 in the third and final set.

In the junior varsity match, it was the Armada (7-1) that came away with the win, handing the Landsharks (6-1) their first loss with tight set scored of 25-23 and 26-24.

"This was a battle from the start and ACA brought an outstanding crowd," Oceanside coach Jennifer Fort said. "Our middle hitter, Chloe Millard, had a standout performance in blocking and both Lexi Duplessis and Brianna Bowman lead the way in kills. Our service receiving was fantastic and our seniors, Joamie Boscana and Madi Harris, were rockstars in the back row."

Bowman, a junior middle hitter, had seven kills to go with one service ace and one block. Duplessis, a junior setter, had seven kills and a block to go with 16 assists in the match. Millard, a junior middle blocker, was credited with four blocks and a kill.

For Atlantic, senior outside hitter Reese Feldman led the way with nine kills, six digs and two block assists. Senior outside hitter Ella Handley also turned in a strong performance with six kills, two service aces and 10 digs. Junior setter Kylie Jones chipped in with three aces while junior libero Addison Autry was credited with 16 digs.

"The match against Oceanside was a true playoff atmosphere," ACA coach Larry Church said. "The crowd was great, it was a high level of play, and it provided some pressure packed moments we have to learn to respond to.

"Oceanside jumped all over us in the first set but, once we settled down, we were able to match their intensity in stretches. Getting behind in every set was a tough spot to be in. Reese Feldman really set the tone for us with some timely kills in the second set. Kylie Jones and Allie Martin kept us in the third set with solid serving and good defense."

In the junior varsity match, it was sophomore setter Bella Goebal and freshman outside hitter Simone Frederick who led the Armada to the hard-fought win. Goebal had nine digs while Frederick had seven. Freshman outside hitter Sophia Pimentel also came up big with six kills and eight assists while freshman middle hitter Mariah Mason had some crucial blocks late in the match to lift ACA to the victory.

"It was a great team effort from all of the players to bounce back from a defeat earlier in the season to Oceanside," ACA JV coach Justin Stack said. "We felt like it was a testament to the hard work we've put in over the last month."

For the Landsharks, Amiya Stevens and Slade Bradburn were standout performers.

"It was a really great game, but a tough outcome," OCA JV coach AJ Koele said. "I loved the way we competed with a good ACA team. We struggled to stay consistent for the entire match, but there were a lot of great moments team-wise. I am proud of the way we battled."

In addition to the girls matches at Atlantic Collegiate Academy, the Oceanside boys' volleyball team avenged its only two losses on the season with a straight set victory over Phillip Simmons at the OCA Gym. The Landsharks (16-2-1) dropped a five-set match to the Iron Horses back on September 24 then lost in straight sets in the final of the Philip Simmons Tournament, outlasted the Iron Horses this time, winning a nail-biter, 27-25, in the first set before taking a 25-21 and 25-20 victory in the second and third sets.

The OCA boys will be back in action at home on Wednesday night, hosting Cane Bay at 6 p.m. The girls' teams will be back at home on Thursday against Orangeburg-Wilkinson for Senior Night. The JV match is set for a 5 p.m. start with the varsity to follow at 6:30 p.m.

"We are so excited to celebrate our seniors and play against a very athletic team," Fort said. "It will definitely be one to watch."
