Mt. Pleasant, SC – There is domination in an athletics event, and then there is what the Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team did against Region 6AAA opponent Battery Creek on Friday night.

The Landsharks, ranked second in Class AAA, almost pitched a shutout, downing the visiting Dolphins 58-4 to improve to 13-4 overall on the year. It was Oceanside's first region game of the season.

"Needless to say, it was a great defensive effort," Oceanside coach Mandy Harrison said. "Holding a team to just four points, zero in the second half, is amazing."

The Landsharks jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the opening quarter and then increased the margin to 37-4 by halftime. Oceanside took its foot off the gas a little in the second half, scoring just 19 total points, but blanks Battery Creek in the process.

Senior co-captains Teagan Scott and Ella Mae Schepp led the team in scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively. Junior Josie Hanks chipped in with nine points.

After Saturday's scheduled game against Trinity Collegiate was postponed, Oceanside will have a week to get ready for a road trip to face Orangeburg-Wilkinson this Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The Bears, currently ranked 10th in the state in class AAA, promise to provide a tougher challenge. O-W currently has a 9-4 record on the year and is scheduled to play on the road against Battery Creek and North Charleston on Tuesday and Wednesday this week before hosting Oceanside on Friday.

The Landsharks will return home on Tuesday, January 21, to host Hanahan.
