Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team took care of business on Monday night in the opening round of the SCHSL Class AAA playoffs, dispatching Silver Bluff High 58-14 at the OCA Gym.

The Landsharks, ranked fourth in the state in class AAA, improved to 20-5 on the season with their seventh consecutive victory, all of which came by double figures. Silver Bluff finished the year with a record of 5-18.

It was the OCA defense that keyed the victory as the Landsharks blanked the visiting Bulldogs in both the first and third quarters.

"It was a solid round one win," OCA coach Mandy Harrison said. "I'm proud of how hard our girls are working right now and thankful for our coaching staff that is working around the clock to have our team prepared and ready for our next opponent."

Senior co-captains Ella Mae Schepp and Teagan Scott got the Landsharks off to a good start, each scoring a pair of baskets in the opening quarter as OCA took an 8-0 lead.

The lead ballooned in the second quarter as both Scott and Schepp added six points each. The Bulldogs finally got on the board with baskets from Candace Williams and Aaliya Wells, but OCA held a dominant 25-4 lead at halftime.

Things got further out of hand in the third quarter as OCA continued to apply defensive pressure and convert turnovers into baskets. Schepp continued with the hot hand, connecting for a pair of three-pointers as the Landsharks pushed their advantage to 46-4.

"We are playing unselfish basketball and playing with pace," Harrison said. "We are focused on working on the things we need to improve to play our best basketball during round two of the playoffs versus Waccamaw."

Schepp finished with a game-high 19 points while Scott added 14.

OCA will be back in action on Wednesday evening when the Landsharks host Waccamaw (12-15) from region 5. The Warriors advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 42-38 victory over Swansea on Monday. The two teams met back on December 18 with Oceanside taking a convincing 64-39 victory in which the Landsharks connected for nine three-point baskets.

The winner on Wednesday will advance to play again on Saturday against the winner of the second round matchup between Keenan (17-6) and Loris (17-7).
