Bluffton, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy boys' golf team earned a third-place finish at the 8th Annual Lowcountry Invitational Tournament, played on Monday and Tuesday this week.

The tournament included 12 of the best high school golf teams from around the Lowcountry and was played on two of the best golf courses in the area – May River Golf Club on Monday and the Berkeley Hall Club on Tuesday.

"This was a loaded field and our boys played very well," OCA coach Rocky Catalano said. "We beat some very good teams."

Senior AJ Dietrick led the way for the Landsharks, finishing sixth overall with a 36-hole score of even par 144 after rounds of 71 and 73. Junior Blake Boccelli finished one shot behind Dietrick after opening with a 73 on Monday and then posting a 72 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Reed Cook tied for 17th in the field after opening the event with a 73 on Monday and following up with a round of 79. Senior Tyler Taber rounded out the Oceanside quartet by finishing 31st with a two-day score of 167.

AC Flora High was never seriously challenged for the tournament title after opening with an eight-under par round of 208 on Monday. The Falcons coasted home with a 15-shot win over second place Benedictine Military out of Savannah, Ga., with a one-under par 215 on Tuesday. Oceanside finished three shots behind Cadets in third place, eight shots clear of Heritage Academy and Hilton Head Christian, who tied for fourth.

AC Flora's Charles Cauthen took medalist honors by one shot over Benedictine's Bear Dollander. Cauthen shot a three-under par 69 on Monday and came back with a two-under 70 on Tuesday to edge past Dollander, who opened with the best individual round of the tournament with a 65 on Monday.

The Landsharks will return to action on March 23-24 at the Jim Ferree Junior Invitational at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island. Oceanside finished second in the event last year behind Hilton Head Prep.

"This will be another tournament that will feature top teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia," Catalano said. "It will probably be the strongest field we play against the whole season."
