Mt. Pleasant, SC - We had another great week at OCA last week and this week is quickly coming to an end!
We just have one more day of school before we get away for a well-deserved Spring Break. I hope our students and staff has a safe and amazing break next week and returns rested and eager to finish the year strong.
School will resume Monday. April 13.
We started this week with great success on the WIN testing for our 11th grade students.
Student of the Month for March
Mackenzie Kiddy
Miss Smith made the nomination for Mackenzie.
"She is the definition of integrity, work ethic, and excellence; she is what we hope for in a Landshark! She offers all her free time to helping her peers in the Writing Lab and virtually. She is an excellent role model for her peers and she leads without criticism or judgment. She always gives her best."
Grit Students of the Month for March
Ethan O'Neal and Rachel Ware
Ms. Sobczak nominated Ethan and Miss Smith nominated Rachel.

"Ethan comes to class early to get extra help, he's always asking questions and participating in class discussions," Sobczak said. "He is a very hard worker and never gives up!"

"Rachel has developed into a true college student and independent learner," Smith said. "Preparing for class, Rachel studies the assigned poetry, applying everything she has learned to understand the material. She comes to class prepared to discuss and is a leader to her peers. In fact, she celebrates her success in class; her excitement in mastering the material motivates her peers. Her desire to learn is an inspiration and makes her a great asset to my class."
Faculty Tank Standouts for March

Miss Ross did an amazing job with Prom, as well as with all our Feeding Frenzies and is currently working on graduation to make that an amazing experience for our seniors. Miss Ross has done a great job all year.
Miss Beckham has done an amazing job with Dual Enrollment this year. There is a lot of work behind the scenes with Dual Enrollment most people never see. It is an endless job, and she does it for the kids! OCA is so blessed to have Miss Beckham.
Algebra and Football

The Algebra II classes led by Mr. Hancox participated in an Experimental Probability Project on the football field on Friday, March 6. Jackson Summey, one of the Algebra II students and OCA's top-ranked field goal kicker, attempted a series of field goals in order for the class to determine his experimental probability of scoring from the 40-yard line, The math indicated he connected at an impressive rate of 80 percent!
The class used this statistical data to determine the Theoretical Probability of Jackson making two kicks in a row from this distance (.8 x .8 = 64%). The exercise provided a fun and memorable math lesson for the entire class!
Field Trip Time
This week, Ms. Rinehart, our Dual Enrollment History Professor, and several chaperones are taking more than 60 students to Patriots Point. It is a great opportunity for our students to understand the sacrifices our veterans made to help keep all of us safe and free.
On Friday we will have the fun Carowinds trip! Ms. Cassell and a team of chaperones will be taking a group of students to ride the rides and experience the thrills at Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. What a great opportunity to celebrate all the hard work they have done and kick off their spring break.
