Mt. Pleasant, SC – Novant Health and Oceanside Collegiate Academy have announced a new partnership to provide Landsharks' student-athletes with outstanding care throughout the 2026-27 school year.

Novant Health East Cooper Medical Center will be the official healthcare provider for Oceanside Collegiate Academy and the partnership brings together two organizations committed to helping student-athletes perform at their best while prioritizing their health, wellness and long-term development.

OCA is known for its competitive athletics programs and commitment to athletic development alongside academic excellence. Serving students in grades 9-12, OCA combines a dual-enrollment curriculum with elite athletics, creating opportunities for student athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals.

"We're excited to partner with Ocean Collegiate Academy and support the health and well-being of the Landsharks," said Dr. Marc Haro, sports medicine medical director, Novant Health Sports Medicine Institute. "Student athletes are balancing demanding academic schedules with the physical and mental demands of competitive athletics. Our sports medicine team is committed to being there for them, from injury prevention and treatment to recovery and helping them return to the activities they love."

Through the partnership, Novant Health will provide sports medicine services and resources designed to support OCA student athletes throughout their athletic careers. These include two full-time athletic trainers, concierge scheduling for in-season athletes with sports medicine and imaging experts and one physician or advanced practice provider at all home football games. The relationship will help connect student-athletes, coaches and families with trusted expertise focused on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and recovery.

"We are incredibly excited to begin this new partnership with Novant Health as Oceanside Collegiate Academy's athletic training and team physician partner," OCA Director of Athletics Mark Meyer said. "The health, safety, and overall well-being of our student-athletes will always be one of our highest priorities, and this partnership allows us to provide them with an exceptional level of care and support.

"Novant Health shares our commitment to putting student-athletes first, and we look forward to building a relationship that will have a meaningful impact on our athletes, coaches, and the entire Oceanside community for years to come."

Landsharks' football coach Brent LaPrad has been impressed by the history of service to student-athletes Novant Health brings to OCA Athletics.

"Oceanside football is excited to have Novant team up with us this year," LaPrad said. " We now have a team physician come to the school one day a week and also on our sidelines on Friday nights.  Novant has been the backbone of high school football in the Charlotte area for the past 10 years, and now we also get the benefits of having them here at OCA. We look forward to building our relationship with Novant and all the support they give our Student-Athletes."

The partnership reflects Novant Health's commitment to expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care and investing in the health of the communities it serves. By supporting student-athletes at Ocean Collegiate Academy, Novant Health East Cooper Medical Center will help promote healthy habits and lifelong wellness while contributing to the continued development of the Landsharks' athletic programs.

"Partnerships like this allow us to make a meaningful difference beyond the walls of our medical facilities," Haro said. "We're proud to support the next generation of student-athletes and to be part of the team helping them build healthier futures."
