Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team made a strong statement over the weekend by sweeping through the Battle of the Lowcountry Tournament hosted by Palmetto Christian Academy.
The Landsharks opened with a dominating performance against Region 6-AAA foe North Charleston, winning the non-region contest 58-13 on Thursday evening. OCA came back on Friday with a hard-fought victory over the host Eagles, winning 61-57. The Landsharks then completed a sweep of the tournament on Saturday afternoon with a 49-31 victory over James Island Charter.
"It was a solid first showing for our team," OCA head coach
Mandy Harrison said. "Our players fought hard in all three games, and we learned a lot about where we need to focus and work as we look forward to a competitive season ahead."
Senior guard
Ella Mae Schepp led the way for the Landsharks, averaging 20 points per game, with a high of 27 against Palmetto Christian. The Landsharks' co-captain followed that performance with a double-double (16 points/11 rebounds) against James Island Charter.
Oceanside's other co-captain, senior
Teagan Scott, also played well, averaging 11 points and six rebounds per game while also posting four blocked shots and three steals per outing.
After taking a break for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Landsharks will return to action next week with games at Pinewood Prep on Monday (Dec. 2) and Lucy Beckham on Wednesday (Dec. 4) before making their home debut on Thursday (Dec. 5) by hosting Porter-Gaud.
"I want to thank PCA for hosting a great local season-opening tournament," Harrison said. "We are looking forward to starting our regular season. We've been working hard, building on what we learned in the Battle of the Lowcountry tournament, and we are eager to put that into action when we take to the road next week."
