Girls Basketball To Put Win Streak On the Line

Gameday vs Lucy Beckham

Girl's Basketball | 12/4/2024 1:35:00 PM

Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team will put its season-opening four-game win streak on the line tonight when they travel to face rival Lucy Beckham.

The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.

The Landsharks (4-0) are coming off a convincing victory over Pinewood Prep on Monday night, having dominated the Patriots 57-17. OCA coach Mandy Harrison credited her teams for its strong defensive play in earning that victory.

"Defense has been our key focus leading up to this game," Harrison said. "I'm proud of the growth our team is showing! We have plenty of work ahead of us but the right mix of attitude, work ethic, and grit."

The Landsharks deflected 24 passes in the victory while creating 15 steals with their defensive intensity.

On the offensive side, it was senior co-captains Ella Mae Schepp and Teagan Scott who led the way to the victory. Schepp scored a team-high 17 points in the victory while Scott posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

In addition to the performances from that veteran duo, the Landsharks also got solid contributions from sophomore Lauren Hagmeyer (eight points and six rebounds) and junior Henley Hanks (eight points).

The Landsharks will be looking to keep their season-opening win streak alive while also dishing out some payback against the Bengals, who handed OCA a pair of losses last year.

"We are excited for this cross-town rivalry game," Harrison said. "They have a gritty and well-rounded team that has a lot of size. It should be a great game."

The Landsharks will be back home in the OCA gym on Thursday night when they host Porter-Gaud High. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
