Mt. Pleasant, SC – I hope everyone had a great weekend and managed to stay warm while watching our Landsharks capture their third consecutive SCHSL football championship on Friday.

It is a very busy time of the year as we are wrapping up our first semester and, as we approach the holiday season. I am sure many of you were running around getting everything ready for the holidays as my wife and I were doing this past weekend.  

We have another very busy upcoming week at OCA. Please read and enjoy all the important information.

Fall Semester

We only have just a few days remaining until the semester comes to an end on December 19. Please make sure you are looking at your child's grades. If you don't have the PowerSchool parent portal please reach out to the school and we will get that information. Also your child has a power school and they can show you their grades. If they are in Dual Enrollment your child and also show you their grades and how they are doing in D2L. D2L is the learning platform TTC uses for all their students. Just let every great team we all need to finish strong! 

Our next Personal Learning Day is December 19. 

We will also have our faculty holiday party on Thursday, December 18, at Crush Yard after school. This will be a great event for our staff as we get to enjoy spending some time with each other outside of work. Thank you to all those whose contributions are making this special for our teachers and staff. They have been through a lot this fall and they keep stepping up for our kids. We have amazing staff who truly care about their students. 

Congratulations again to our football team for winning their third straight State Championship last Friday. We are so proud of them. It was a great game and it was great seeing so many of our fans and students there to support the team. 

After the game we saw a sad scene as some players, coaches and fans showed very poor sportsmanship. I saw a lot of self control from our players and coaches as they were getting hit and punched, walking away without retaliating. It could have been so much worse. 

We need to look at this unfortunate situation as a learning event and make sure it never happens again. We talk about elite athletics in our mission statement, that also means we show great sportsmanship and class. We are about doing everything the right way, that includes winning and losing.

Football Signing Day

Last week Wednesday football had our first signing day. It was great to see our young men signing, taking the next step toward making their dreams come true.

Writing Contest 

OCA will be holding its first writing contest during the spring semester. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their talents and creativity. 

 

Winter Sports

Our winter sports are in full swing so please come and support our Landsharks as they compete in basketball. Schedules are posted on the OCA website and are updated in the event of any changes.

Community Service

We take pride in giving back to our community!! Thank you to Ms. Beckman and to our Spanish 101 and Spanish 102 students and parents for donating food and toys for a Spanish-speaking family in need. Last Wednesday several students delivered the items to a liaison for the family.  In addition to donations, some students wrote letters in Spanish to the children telling about themselves and their hobbies. What a great opportunity to put our language learning to real life practice! 

Graduation

Graduation date and time has been set! Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. and will be held at Seacoast Church.
