Mt. Pleasant, SC – Oceanside Collegiate Academy made a 10-spot jump in the final MaxPreps Cup Standings for 2024-25 to finish as the seventh best high school sports program in the nation.

The Landsharks finished 17th in the final standings for 2023-24 after a No. 8 finish following the 2022-23 season.

MaxPreps, which covers high school athletics nationally, has been calculating a national champion each year since 2011-12. Points are awarded for state championships, state runner-up finishes and national rankings. Additional points are weighted based on popularity of the sport based on participation numbers within that sport, the size of the state, the enrollment of schools in a playoff division and the number of teams participating in that playoff division. A sport must be contested in at least 10 states for it to be a scoring sport in the standings.

"Finishing seventh in the MaxPreps Cup standings is a monumental achievement and a moment of great pride for our school," OCA Principal Christina Brown said. "This is more than just a number; it's validation our philosophy works. We've always believed our elite athletics program must focus on the skills and traits required for life — things like leadership, resilience, and discipline. This national recognition confirms we are not only competing at the highest level but also building exceptional young people."

The Landsharks made a leap up the standings during the spring because of winning five championships with one state runner-up finish. OCA's boy's lacrosse team earned bonus points for finishing the year ranked No. 21 in the nation. Oceanside also won a pair of state titles in the fall, with two other fall programs earning state runner-up honors.

"Being ranked as the No. 7 high school athletics program in the nation, and the No. 1 program in South Carolina for the fourth consecutive year, is an incredible honor for Oceanside Collegiate Academy," Landsharks Director of Athletics Mark Meyer said. "This recognition is a direct reflection of the exceptional coaches we've hired and the relentless dedication of our student-athletes — not just in competition, but in the classroom as well. Whether it's on the field, court, pool, track, or course, they represent our school with pride, discipline, and heart. I couldn't be prouder of what we've built together."

Cherry Creek High of Glenwood Village, Colo., a public school with an enrollment of 3,829 students, captured its first MaxPreps Cup title. The Bruins sponsor 28 varsity sports and captured nine state titles this past year. The school also had six different teams finish the year ranked among the top 25 in the nation in their sport.

Other schools to finish in the top 10 for 2024-25 include (with total number of sports, state titles and enrollment):
2. St. Thomas Aquinas of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (32 sports, five titles, 2,045 students)
