Mt. Pleasant, SC – I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend as we celebrated the great Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday. This annual celebration of remembrance gives each of us an opportunity to reflect on how we treat others. Respect, dignity and compassion are three words we should all strive to project without our communities and to each other.
A reminder that on Friday, January 23, OCA will celebrate its 10th Anniversary at the "From Sea To Stars Gala" at the Cotton Dock-Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant. This will be a formal event with formal attire required. The deadline to RSVP for the event has been extended through this evening. Make your reservations HERE if you plan to attend.
As part of the celebration, the inaugural class of the Landsharks Athletics Hall of Fame will be introduced. That group includes Sam Hartman (football), Emma Schimpf (golf), Joey Boylston (lacrosse/football) and Sam Rudnicki (Voice of the Landsharks).
Last week we started the process of interviewing candidates for our Principal position. We are blessed to have received interest from so many amazing candidates. We will be holding more interviews this week and we hope to be able to present candidates to the Board for their consideration at the next meeting.
Our inaugural class of AirSharks will take flight beginning on February 2. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to earn pilot licenses and get a jump start on a great career as a pilot.
One last important note for this week. Please pay attention to the ever-changing weather forecast. We will keep you notified of any interruptions of class schedules or changes to operations in the event we do get some ice and snow as is currently forecast for this weekend.
Upcoming Events
The application process is now open for the 2026-27 school year at Oceanside and, to answer questions from any prospective parents, our next Shark Talk is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 at 4 p.m. in the OCA gymnasium. Visit our Admissions Page for complete information on enrolling at OCA for next year. The deadline for applications is January 31.
The final week of January will feature an important School Board meeting on Tuesday, the 27th, at 4 p.m. We will have our first Personalized Learning Day on Friday, January 30th.
Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity is everything in education and our staff has been working hard to prevent cheating. There will be serious consequences when you get caught. But, even if you don't get caught, you are only hurting yourself in the long run. Taking shortcuts will only hurt you in the big game of life.
Writing Contest
OCA will be holding its first writing contest during the spring semester. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their talents and creativity.
Community Service
Remember, to walk across the stage at graduation you must do 25 hours of community service. This time of the year there are always great opportunities to give back and help people in need. If you are doing community service please let us know.
