Mt. Pleasant, SC – Last week was a great week as we got right back into the swing of things academically here at OCA. All of us here want to thank you, our students and parents, for your patience as we have negotiated our way through some requested schedule changes.
Last week was especially exciting because, on Thursday, all the Principals and Board Chairs from Limestone Charter Association School met in Columbia to make official their move to the South Carolina Public Charter School District (PCSD) at the District's January Board meeting.
Principals Mike Lorenz (OCA), Dr. Cheryl McKinley (ACA)
and Dr. Julie Marshall (LCA).
The 14 Limestone Charter Association schools were required to make the transition from Limestone to PCSD as a result of Limestone University closing its doors last year. I was accompanied to the meeting by our board chair, Chris Swisher, and we were joined by Legion Collegiate Academy principal Dr. Julie Marshall, assistant principal Mike Drummond and board chair Judge Collier as well as Atlantic Collegiate Academy interim principal Dr. Cheryl McKinley and board chair Matt Harris.
Carol Aust, who works closely with all three Pinnacle Charter Academy schools, was also there at the meeting.
During the PCSD Board meeting, Oceanside was recognized for earning a citation for excellence during the 2024-25 school year. Each school in the state is graded annually for its performance in many different areas, and OCA has been recognized for excellence on a regular basis.
After the board meeting all 14 schools were invited for a luncheon and orientation session with the staff from the SC PCSD. Talking with many of the other principals after the orientation, we all were excited about how the move to the PCSD will benefit our schools and students. This will be a great move for OCA and our sister schools.
The other schools that made the move to the PCSD included Coastal High School (9-12), Discover School at Myrtle Beach (K-8), Discovery School at Rock Hill (K-8), East Link Academy (K-8), Global Academy of South Carolina (K-8), Goucher Charter Academy (K4-8), Horse Creek Academy (5K-12), Mountain View Prep (7-12), Orangeburg High School for Health Professions (9-12), Riverstone High (7-12) and Summerville Prep Academy (K-8).

Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity is everything in education and our staff has been working hard to prevent cheating. There will be serious consequences when you get caught. But, even if you don't get caught, you are only hurting yourself in the long run. Taking shortcuts will only hurt you in the big game of life.
Writing Contest
OCA will be holding its first writing contest during the spring semester. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their talents and creativity.
