Mt. Pleasant, SC – Is it ever cold outside! I hope everyone is staying warm and watching out for each other. This weather reminds me of why I moved to South Carolina from Wisconsin.

What a great week we had last week as we celebrated OCA's 10-year Anniversary and spent time interviewing amazing principal candidates. We also had Coach Beamer from USC as well as coaches from Clemson visiting our school to recruit our Landshark student-athletes. 

The Anniversary Gala was the Pinnacle of Pinnacles as Athletic Director Mark Meyer said! On Friday we held out event in celebration of OCA's first 10 years. The event also served as  a fundraiser for OCA. We all thank those who were involved for all the hard work, planning and determination it took to make this event happen.  

Also, congratulations to our first Landsharks Athletics Hall of Famers! The group of four was official inducted into the new Hall of Fame at the event. You can read about the Class of 2026 HERE. Also, enjoy scrolling through some of the photos from a memorable evening.

I knew going into the week that we had some outstanding candidates coming to interview for the OCA principal position. We are blessed to have received interest from so many amazing candidates. We were able to present candidates to the Board for their consideration at our January meeting earlier today. I am hopeful that we will be able to make a public announcement very soon.

We want to thank Ms. Cassell for bringing in Ben-Jamin Toy to speak to our students. 

Thank you to Mr. Toy, a speaker, author and owner of On Purpose Adventures, Nature Adventures on Shem Creek and Cohesion Culture. Last week, Ben led a workshop with our ninth-grade REEF students on personal growth and leadership. He is the co-author of Becoming a Cohesive Leader: The POWERup Guide to Grow, Develop, and Advance Your Career.

Upcoming Events

Seniors Cap/GownI have scheduled Jostens for 4/27/26 for cap/gown distribution in the cafe from 11-1:00pm. If you know of any Seniors who haven't ordered yet please encourage them to order asap at: lowcountrygrad.com

Shark Talk: If you have family or friends who might be interested in attending OCA please let them know our next Shark Talk is Tuesday February 3 at 4 p.m. 

Academics

AirSharks will start on February 2. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to earn pilot lesions and get a jump start in a great career as a pilot.  

Testing season is coming up soon! In December, 11th graders signed up to take either the SAT or the ACT. Below is important information for test day. 

• The ACT will be held on February 24th. All students, regardless of session, will arrive at campus at 7:15am for testing. Please bring a charged chromebooks and a pencil. 
• The SAT will be held on March 10th. All students, regardless of session, will arrive at campus at 7:15am for testing. Please bring a charged chromebooks and a pencil. 

More information will be sent out close to testing dates. Students should check their email daily.

Graduation date and time has been set! Graduation is May 29, 2026, at Seacoast Church, with the ceremony starting at 11 a.m.

Writing Contest 

OCA will be holding its first writing contest during the spring semester. This is a great opportunity for our students to show their talents and creativity. 

Community Service 

Remember, to walk across the stage at graduation you must do 25 hours of community service. This time of the year there are always great opportunities to give back and help people in need. If you are doing community service please let us know.
