Conway, SC – After trailing the host Atlantic Collegiate Armada for three quarters on Monday night, the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 55-53 victory in a battle of state title contenders.
Atlantic (3-2) took a 41-37 lead over Oceanside (6-1) into the final quarter, but the Landsharks got hot from the perimeter with a trio of three-point baskets to storm back for the win.
Senior guard
Tyrek Dawson sparked the Landsharks' rally, scoring eight of his team-high 14 points in the final quarter with junior guard
Abe Davinroy also connecting on his third three-pointer of the game to finish with 11 points.
Atlantic junior guard Jaylen Bellamy did all he could to keep the Armada close, scoring 14 of his game-high 16 points in the second half. OCA did a great job of holding ACA senior forward Jamie Brooks quiet in the second half, allowing him to score just one basket with foul troubles following him.
ACA freshman guard Anton Daniels chipped in with 10 points in the game but, like Brooks, he was held to just one basket in the second half.
For OCA, senior guard
Gabriel Riesgo-Rivera was a big part of the Landsharks' comeback, scoring all 11 of his points in the second half.
ACA won the JV tilt between the two Pinnacle sister schools by a score of 53-21.
The Landsharks will return to action on Thursday when they open play in the Khris Middleton Showcase Tournament against the host team James Island Charter. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Oceanside varsity is scheduled to face West Ashley on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before closing out the tournament against Socastee High on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
