Girl's Tennis | 9/25/2024 3:04:00 PM

Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls tennis team has been busy over the last two days, playing Region 6-AAA matches against Battery Creek and Hanahan.

Neither match turned out to be much of a challenge for the Landsharks, who dropped a total of two games (one in singles and one in doubles) over the two matches.

Monday's match at the Mt. Pleasant Rec Center against Battery Creek was a show of complete domination for OCA, who won all five singles matches 6-0, 6-0 as well as the one doubles match by the same score.

"The team came out ready to play and was aggressive from the start," OCA tennis coach Shawn Harris said. "They are ready and determined this season to win their fourth straight State Championship."

Senior Izzie Johnson played in the No. 1 singles position with three sophomores and a freshman playing behind her. Sophomore Fallon Higgans (No. 2), Adi Levi (No. 3), Elloree Besta (No. 4) and freshman Sophia Sebold (No. 5) all won their matches 6-0, 6-0.

Junior Lexi Langhoff teamed with freshman Ross Marsh to claim the doubles point with a 6-0, 6-0 mach.

"Congratulations to Ross for winning her first high school match," Harris said.

The Landsharks went on the road to play Hanahan on Tuesday, but the results were much the same, but with a much more veteran lineup. Seniors Kate Johnson (No. 1), Izzie Johnson (No. 2) and Talula Enright (No. 4) all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories, as did junior Gianna Connonie in the No. 3 spot. Higgins played the No. 5 singles match and posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

In doubles play, the duo of sophomores Adi Levy and Besta won their match 6-1, 6-0.

"The team keeps building momentum with back-to-back wins against region opponents," Harris said. "For the seniors, Kate Johnson, Ella DeFord, Izzie Johnson and Talula Enright, who have all been at OCA single they were freshmen, this is a special year."

The Landsharks, who are now 6-0 on the season, are scheduled to return to action on October 3 when they face non-region foe Academic Magnet. That match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start in North Charleston.
