North Charleston, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team took a giant step forward in the quest for a Region 6-AAA title on Tuesday night, hammering North Charleston 65-18 on the Cougars' home floor.

With the victory, the Landsharks (18-5, 6-1) secured no worse than a share of the region title. They can wrap up the championship at home on Thursday night when they face Hanahan (14-7, 5-2) in a rematch of last week's hard fought road win.

Should Hanahan take Thursday's game, the region would finish in a three-way tie between the Hawks, Landsharks and Orangeburg-Wilkinson High, which handed OCA its only region loss so far this year.

The Oceanside girls are looking to join the Landsharks' boys' varsity team, which clinched its region title on Tuesday with a 61-50 victory over North Charleston. The Landsharks, ranked No. 1 in the state, both overall and in Class AAA, improved to 20-1 overall with their 16th consecutive win. OCA is a perfect 7-0 in region play and will close the regular season on Thursday against a Hanahan team that is still in search of its first region victory.

The Oceanside JV boys lost their game against North Charleston on Tuesday, falling 39-25.

The Oceanside girls did almost enough damage in the opening quarter on Tuesday to win the game. The Landsharks poured in 17 points in the period and followed 22 more in the second quarter to take a demanding halftime lead.

The story of the game for OCA was senior co-captain Ella Mae Schepp, who surpassed 1,000 points in career scoring during her 16-point outing – 14 of which came in the first half.

"Ella Mae became the first player in OCA girls' basketball history to achieve this accomplishment," Landsharks coach Mandy Harrison said. "As her coach, I couldn't be prouder for her. Ella Mae has put in countless hours at her craft to not only improve her game, but to also provide a lift to our team."

OCA's other co-captain, senior Teagan Scott, added 14 points for the Landsharks in the game while junior Josie Hanks scored 12.

The OCA boys continued their win streak in a game against North Charleston (14-10, 4-4) that was not nearly as close as the final score might indicate. The Landsharks blitzed the Cougars in the second quarter, outscoring them 23-11 in building a 36-18 halftime lead.

Junior Abe Davinroy got Oceanside off to a good start, coming off the bench to hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter. Senior Carson Jones also had a three-pointer as the Landsharks built a 13-7 lead. The second quarter outburst for OCA included three more made baskets from beyond the arc.

North Charleston made a run at OCA in the third quarter behind seven points from Richard Hazel III, closing to within 45-35, but ACA was able to hold off any final challenge thanks to eight points in the final quarter from junior Jake Thomas, who finished with a game-high 21 points.

Davinroy finished with 11 points for the Landsharks while Jones ended the night with 10. Hazel led the Cougars with 17 points while Marco Simmons added 10.

Play on Thursday against Hanahan will begin at 5 p.m. with the JV boys. The crucial girls' showdown will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the boys' varsity regular season finale will tip at 8 p.m.
