OCA Tennis Ranked 16th Nationally

2025 boys tennis

Boy's Tennis | 3/12/2025 4:07:00 PM

Hanahan, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy boys' tennis team, which came into the 2025 season ranked at No. 16 in the nation according to the University Tennis Ranking (UTR) improved to 5-0 on the young season on Tuesday with an easy 6-0 victory over Hanahan High.

The Landsharks have not yet dropped a single set this year, much less a match.

Oceanside coach Shawn Harris said the preseason national ranking is calculated by adding up the top six individual players on each team.

"This accomplishment is a very exclusive achievement by not only the top six players on this current team, but for the whole team collectively," Harris said. "These players constantly push each other to the best as possible. The dedication of our current players, former players, and coaches is what has made this national ranking possible."

The combined power ranking of the top six members of the Oceanside squad gave the Landsharks a preseason point total of 53.99, just a fraction of a point behind 15th place Scarsdale High (54.05) from New York. The No. 1 ranked prep team in the nation entering the spring was McCallie High in Chattanooga, Tenn., with a score of 59.93.

Oceanside is the only team from South Carolina in the top 20.

"Coach Carlos Lozano and I have coached both the Oceanside Boys' and Girls' teams for the four years and have been lucky enough to have great, amazing, dedicated players to represent and play for their school. In these four years the boys and girls have combined for eight State Championships, seven Region Championships, two Individual State Championships, multiple Region Player of the Year winners and three State Players of the Year!"

The Landsharks continued their early season success with their victory over Hanahan on Tuesday. Oceanside did not drop a single set in the match and even left the opposing coach impressed.

"Shawn's boys are the most respectful, well-mannered young men I've seen in a long time," Hanahan coach Donna Butler said. "We were definitely outclassed, but they did not humiliate us. It was very good to see this sportsmanship!"
