Talk of the Tank – Spring is Rolling Past

OCA Calendar | 2/24/2026 6:25:00 PM

Mt. Pleasant, SC – We have a lot going on right now at OCA as we continue rolling through the second semester.

We are finishing up our winter sports season and starting our spring sports. Please make it a point to come out to some events this spring to cheer on our student-athletes.

The OCA faculty recently took a day to support their respective Alma Maters as we celebrated college day at OCA.

2026 Teacher School Spirit Day
Left to right (top): John Drummond (LSU), Greg Hancox (Tennessee), Alecia Robinson (Alabama), Kathleen Iriart (USC), Susan Smith (Wake Forest), Wilber (JMU), Danielle Barrineau (Clemson), Tracy Moulaison (Roger Williams University). Left to right (front) - Brittney McCann (Penn State), Katie Beckham (Clemson).

Earlier today we had our first testing day as our students took the ACT (for juniors and seniors) and Accuplacer test (for 10th graders and new upperclassmen who have recently joined OCA).

As a reminder, it is the cold and flu season. Please remind your kids to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer often throughout the day to help prevent illness. If a student has a fever of 101 or higher or is experiencing severe nausea, please keep them at home so we do not spread illness to other students and faculty. Please email attendance@landsharks.org if your child is sick and will be out of school.

Reminder - missing three consecutive days of school will require medical documentation, such as a doctor's note.

On Monday, Dr. Angel Malone, the Superintendent of Limestone Charter Association, visited OCA and dropped off our banner to signify the 2024-25 School of Excellence recognition.

This Friday will be a Personal Learning Day at OCA. This is a great opportunity for students to come to OCA and get extra help or get caught up on tests, quizzes and assignments they may have missed. Please take advantage of this day to improve your academics.

I have a sad update on Ava Holland who was a student at our sister school, Atlantic Collegiate Academy. On Monday night, at 5 p.m., an Honor Walk was held for Ava at MUSC as she was moved to the operating room to donate her organs.

Ava lost her life but, she will save at least eight lives through her donated organs. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and everyone at ACA as they negotiate their way through this tragic loss. We are also reminded that life is precious. Give your kids a hug and make sure you tell them you love them every day. You just never know when it might be your last chance.

If you want to help support the Holland family with medical expenses, there is a GoFundMe page set up to provide financial support lease as they deal with this unimaginable loss.

OCA College Program for 2026-27

Remember our slogan: It's Not College Prep… It's College!

For the 2026-27 school year and beyond, Oceanside's College Program will focus specifically on a pathway towards achieving a University Transfer Associate of Arts degree – tuition free. *

OCA is not a college-prep school, it is a Collegiate Academy that offers college classes to replace high school graduation requirements. If you come to OCA, you should expect to participate in rigorous high school classes that prepare you to become a full-time college student as early as your sophomore year of high school.

As an Oceanside student, you are expected to participate in every college course offered on our pupil progression pathway in order to earn the University Transfer Associate of Arts degree. In short, if you qualify for our college classes, you should expect to be placed in them and will be expected to work toward earning your Associate degree.
Students who fail to be successful in their college classes will only be offered virtual, non-honors courses to meet the minimum requirements for graduation.

Students will not be allowed to "opt out" because they don't want to take a class; if they qualify, they will be expected to continue with the next class in their sequence towards the completion of their degree, no exceptions.

Qualifications for OCA's College Program

  • Enrolled as an OCA student
  • Earn a 3.0 or better GPA
  • 90%+ average in English I and II
  • 85%+ average in Geometry, Algebra I and Algebra II

*Notable Options within OCA's College Program

Students who wish to opt for a University Transfer Associate of Science degree may opt to replace certain OCA-offered courses with courses offered by Trident Technical College, with prior school approval. However, these college courses are not covered by OCA's free tuition program and students will be charged for tuition, textbooks and course fees.
