OCA Calendar | 2/10/2026 8:34:00 PM
Mt. Pleasant, SC – We had another amazing week at OCA last week and we are all excited to welcome our new school leader, Dr. Kelly Linkenhoker. Dr. Linkenhoker will begin her tenure as OCA Principal on July 1st. Until that time, she will be working with our leadership team through the transition process so it will be as smooth as possible.
Our Student of the Month for January is Sarah Ligon, who was nominated by Ms. Cassel.
"I am pleased to nominate Sarah for Super Shark," Cassel said. "She consistently demonstrates kindness, respect and a positive attitude toward everyone around her. She is outgoing and welcoming, helping to create an environment where her classmates feel comfortable and supported.
"In the classroom, she is attentive and engaged. She listens carefully, participates thoughtfully, and models the habits of a strong learner. Her work ethic and willingness to contribute make her a leader among her peers. Beyond the classroom, she is a phenomenal athlete whose dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship reflect the same outstanding character she shows each day at school. She represents our Landshark community with pride and integrity."
Ms. Trubey echoed those thoughts.
"Her teachers have noticed that she is a standout student with great character," Trubey said. "She has strong motivation and great grades. She is just a top-notch kiddo."
Athletic Director Mark Meyer highlighted her work ethic.
"Liggy is a super hard-working young leader who brightens the mood of everyone around her."
January's Grit Student is Derrius Roseburgh
Our Grit student of the Month for January is Derrius Roseburgh, who was nominated by Ms. Barrineau.
"Derrius continuously works hard in my U.S. History class," Barrineau said. "He stays on task, follows expectations and goes above and beyond in his thinking skills, creativity and teamwork. He thinks outside of the box and demonstrates the valuable ability to take initiative and problem solve. Keep up the good work."
Coach Meyer and Ms. Trubey highlighted his work ethic. "He is a hard worker, is respectful and creative."
Last Friday we have a Feeding Frenzy pep really to celebrate our winter sports and it was so much fun! We thank all the staff and students who put so much effort and spirit into making it the best pep rally!
We do ask that, when we have Feeding Frenzy, to please encourage your child to stay on campus and come for the pep rally. The more students we have who attend just makes for more fun. If the students don't attend, they are really missing out. This is one of the only opportunities for the entire student body to be together.
Juniors, you're on a roll! After winning the Winter Feeding Frenzy, thanks to Reagan crushing the dance-off "again!", you've earned free McDonald's burgers. Way to bring the energy and school spirit!
McDonald's will be on campus this Thursday, the 12th, between sessions at 11:20 a.m. Burgers will be handed out in the cafe. Just stop by between sessions, check in, and grab your burger, while supplies last.
Enjoy your well-earned win, Juniors!
We've got some exciting news to share from Athletics. Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, Oceanside Collegiate Academy will be adding Wrestling to our athletics program—making it the first wrestling team in school history.
This is a huge step as we continue to grow OCA Athletics and create new opportunities for students to compete, train and represent our school. Whether you're an experienced wrestler or someone interested in trying something new, this is an exciting addition to our program.
More details, including interest meetings and program information, will be shared soon — so stay tuned! We're looking forward to seeing what the future holds as we bring wrestling to OCA
Thoughts and Prayers
Ava Holland
I do have some sad news to share. Our sister school, Atlantic Collegiate Academy in Conway, is going through a very hard time right now. An amazing student named Ava Holland lost her battle to survive at MUSC. She was in a horrible car accident while driving to school on February 4.
Ava was an amazing student, with a very high GPA, and was an outstanding athlete who started on the ACA volleyball team at just 15 years old. Please keep Ava, her family and ACA in your thoughts and prayers. There has been a
GoFundMe page set up to support Ava's family, who made the decision to donate her organs so that she can help others as her final act.
If anyone has thoughts as to how OCA can support our sister school, please let me know. This is a reminder to all of us that life is precious. Please talk to your students about driving safely. Be a defensive driver and always be ready and alert because you never know what is going to happen when you are driving.
