Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy volleyball team sent its seniors out in style on Thursday night, downing regional foe Orangeburg-Wilkinson 3-0.
The Landsharks improved to 11-3 overall and 7-0 in Region 6-AAA play. The OCA junior varsity also won its match against Orangeburg-Wilkinson 1-0, playing just one set because the visitors were more than 90 minutes late in arriving to the OCA gym.
Prior to the varsity match the Landsharks paid tribute to their five senior players:
Joamie Boscana,
Lexi Duplessis Addison Felton,
Madi Harris and
Sophia Skidmore.
"It was senior night in front of a big crowd and win meant we would win the Region, so there was a lot on the line," OCA coach
Jennifer Fort said. "It was good to be able to send those seniors out with such an important win to guarantee a playoff spot."
Duplessis led the seniors by recording five kills, two service aces and 31 assists. Junior
Athena Bold had a big game as well, recording 11 kills and two blocks while Jada McKinney recorded 10 kills and one block.
The Landsharks have one more regular season match before the start of the SCHSL playoffs on October 31. OCA will travel to face Hanahan next Thursday. The junior varsity will play first, starting at 5 p.m., with the varsity squad to follow at 6:30 p.m.
"We are going into that game with no pressures regarding region ranking, so we will definitely mix it up and work on some things to help prepare us for the playoffs," Fort said.
