Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy girls' volleyball team once again advanced in the SCHSL playoffs on Thursday night, downing Fox Creek High School 3-0.
The Landsharks (15-3) advance to host Region 6-AAA rival Orangeburg-Wilkinson High next Tuesday for the right to play for the Class AAA state championship. The Lower State championship game will be played at the OCA Gym Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
Chapman High and Powdersville High will play for the Upper State title the same night. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, at 2 p.m. and will be played at Dreher High in Columbia.
OCA coach
Jennifer Fort said she continues to be impressed with her squad's level of play.
"These girls continue to out-perform expectations," Fort said. "They have a goal in mind and just continue to execute. When we play OWHS on Tuesday we know it is going to be a tough game mentally. That team is very scrappy and has the advantage of being the underdog, so we are going to try our best to prepare accordingly."
The Landsharks posted their 13
th consecutive win, all 3-0 sweeps, by dominating the visiting Predators early in a 25-12 first set victory. Fox Creek kept it closer in the second set, but Oceanside still won easily, 25-16. It was in the third set that Fox Creek put up the most resistance, but the OCA squad pulled out a 26-24 win to clinch the match.
Juniors
Brianna Bowman and
Athena Bold led the Landsharks to the victory, both posting nine kills in the match. Bowman also had four service aces. Senior Libero
Madi Harris had five service aces in the match while also giving a strong performance on the service receiving end.
Oceanside owns a pair of three-set victories over Orangeburg-Wilkinson this year, including on senior night just a month ago when OCA won 25-22, 25-16 and 25-17. The first meeting, on September 24 in Orangeburg, was the Landsharks' tightest match during their win streak. That night OCA won 25-22, 26-24 and 25-18.
