Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy volleyball team posted a convincing straight sets victory over visiting James Island High on Monday afternoon at the OCA gym in the Landsharks' first home match of the year.

The Landsharks improved to (2-3) on the season with the victory. Oceanside won the match with scores of 25-17, 25-7 and 25-19.

"We have been focusing this season on cleaning up our own errors and I feel like this is the first game where we really played clean volleyball," OCA head coach Jennifer Fort said.

Senior setter Lexi Duplessis had a strong performance in the match for OCA, posting three service aces, five kills and 15 assists. Junior outside hitter Brianna Bowman also played well, recording seven service aces and nine kills.

"We have played nothing by 5A schools over the past five days and it has been a great opportunity to work on playing against that higher level of competition," Fort said.

The Landsharks opened the season this past weekend in the North Myrtle Beach Border Battle, posting a 1-2 record in three matches. OCA fell to Reagan High from Pfafftown, NC, (near Winston-Salem) 2-0 in the opening match of the year, dropping the first set 25-20 before falling 25-12 in the second. Reagan has won the Central Piedmont Conference title in 12 of the last 15 seasons.

Oceanside opened a busy Saturday with a straight set win over Ashley High from Wilmington, NC, dropping the Screaming Eagles 2-0 with set wins of 25-19 and 25-14. They closed out the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Hoggard High of Wilmington, falling 25-21 and 25-15 in that match. The Landsharks were also scheduled to play Lexington High in the tournament, but that match was canceled.

The Landsharks were also in action last night at Lucy Beckham, falling to the Bengals in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19.

Oceanside's squad will get a break after such a busy start to the season before returning to action on September 5 at home against Atlantic Collegiate Academy. The Landsharks will then host Hanahan High to begin play in SCHSL Region 6-AAA play on September 10.
