Mt. Pleasant, SC - The Oceanside Collegiate Academy volleyball team took faced sister school Atlantic Collegiate Academy on Wednesday, and the Landsharks came away with a straight set victory over the Armada.

OCA improved to 3-3 on the season while dropping ACA to 1-1.

"We started off pretty sloppy, but after a timeout we really focused in on what we needed to do and got the job done," OCA coach
Jennifer Fort said. "After some well-placed adjustments in the second and third sets we started to get in the rhythm and figure it out."

The Landsharks outlasted the Armada in a back-and-forth opening set, winning by a score of 25-20. OCA continued to apply pressure in the second set, taking a more convincing 25-14 victory before sealing the match with a 25-18 win in the third set.

For OCA, junior outside hitter
Brianna Bowman led the way to the victory with 11 kills. Senior setter
Lexi Duplessis also had a strong performance in the match, accounting for nine kills while also piling up 16 assists.

The Landsharks will be back in action in Region 6AAA play on Tuesday, September 10, when they host Hanahan High at the OCA Gym at 6:30 p.m.

"We have done a ton of work on and off the court to prepare for Region play," Fort said. "I am excited to see how we can execute in high stress situations like a region game."

In addition to varsity victory, the Landsharks' JV squad also posted a win over ACA, downing the Armada 25-13 and 25-14. Kimber Gilmore posted a team-high nine kills in the match while Maddie Scott recorded four aces.

"Our season starts now," coach
AJ Koele said. "We have had tough competition and practiced hard to get to this point. We are excited to start Region play on Tuesday."
