Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Oceanside Collegiate Academy boys' basketball team found holiday tournament play to their liking during the winter break, going unbeaten in two different tournaments.

The Landsharks swept through the Khris Middleton Showcase, played at James Island Charter, December 19-21 with victories over the host Trojans (54-39), West Ashley High (50-36) and Socastee High (55-36).

Following a short break for Christmas, the Landsharks took park in the Carolina Lowcountry Invitational from December 28-30, defeating James Madison High from Virginia (44-32), New Rochelle High from New York (66-47) and Covenant Day School from North Carolina (66-54).

Overall, Oceanside enters 2025 on an eight-game win streak while holding a 12-1 overall record. The Landsharks are currently ranked third overall in the state of South Carolina and first in Class AAA.

The Landsharks are scheduled to host Battery Creek High in region play on Friday night, weather permitting. Saturday's game against Trinity Collegiate Academy has already been postponed.

Here is a brief recap of the Landsharks games from the holiday break.

OCA 54, James Island 36 - Recap

OCA 50, West Ashley 36

The Landsharks found themselves buried in a huge hole early as the Wildcats ran out to a 17-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game. West Ashley's Kendell Mack hit a trio of three-pointers as part of 11 points in the opening period while Oceanside was limited to a single Jake Thomas basket.

The quarter break came at just the right time, allowing the Landsharks to refocus. Junior Terence Johnson scored in the paint to get OCA started on a 24-5 run to halftime. Junior Kaedon Sanders came off the bench to hit a pair of three-pointers and the Landsharks connected on 5-of-7 from the free throw line as Oceanside took a 26-22 lead into the break.

Oceanside kept up the defensive pressure in the second half, holding West Ashley (9-6) to just 14 points in the second half. Thomas led the way for the Landsharks with 14 points in the game while Mack led West Ashley with 13.

OCA 55, Socastee 36

Oceanside avoided a slow start against the Braves (7-7), jumping out to a 19-7 lead in the first quarter with Abe Davinroy and Carson Jones both hitting three-pointers to get the Landsharks rolling. Tyrek Dawson hit a pair of threes in the second quarter as Oceanside pushed its advantage to 29-15 at the half.

The Landsharks continued to strike from long range in the third quarter with Jones and Gabriel Riesgo-Rivera both dialing up from beyond the three-point line. Socastee tried to apply pressure in the final quarter, but Oceanside was able to spread the ball around to take a 19-point victory.

Braves' senior guard Bryson Sams led all scorers in the game with 20 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Davinroy led a balanced OCA attack, which included nine different players in the scoring column, with 13 points while Riesgo-Rivera chipped in with 10.

OCA 44, James Madison 29

The Landsharks had to battle from behind after a sluggish opening quarter left them trailing the visiting Warhawks from Vienna, Va., 14-8 after the opening quarter. Oceanside ramped up the defensive pressure while waiting for the offensive attack to get going, holding James Madison (7-4) to just two points in the second quarter. OCA didn't fare much better and trailed 16-14 at the break.

In the third quarter that long-range shooting came to life with Riesgo-Rivera hitting a pair of three-points and Jones adding another as the Landsharks moved in front 28-22. Oceanside again spread the ball around in the final quarter, getting points from five different players, to pull away for the victory.

Riesgo-Rivera was the only Landshark in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Seniors Ryan Furlong (14) and Michael Dinkelacker (12) scored all but three points in the game for the Warhawks.

OCA 66, New Rochelle 47

The Landsharks came out firing from the start against the Huguenots (6-2), once against getting scoring help from nine different players. The scoring came more from inside the arc than outside, but OCA did connect on six three-point baskets in the game.

New Rochelle kept things close in the first half as the Landsharks built a five-point advantage, 31-26. Senior Malik Gasper proved to be a challenge for OCA on the defensive end as the big (6-7, 215) post player scored nine points in each half to finish with a game-high 18.

Oceanside was able to answer with baskets from all over the court as Thomas, Davinroy and Johnson scored 13 points each. The Landsharks used a 17-7 third quarter to pull away and then finished off the visitors with 18 points in the final quarter.

OCA 66, Covenant Day 54

Oceanside closed out their second straight tournament sweep by putting up its best offensive performance of the long stretch of games. Like in earlier games, the Landsharks were able to pull away from the Lions (10-9) in the second half after a closely played first half.

Riesgo-Rivera proved to be the wrong man to foul as the Lions sent him to the free throw line six different times in the contest, and he was a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe. He also hit a pair of three pointers, one in each half, to lead Oceanside with 18 points.

Thomas got off to a hot start for the Landsharks as well, scoring 10 of his 17 points in the opening half. He got to the line in the second half, connecting on 5-of-6 free throws to help OCA pull away. Dawson also scored in double figures, hitting a trio of three-pointers and finishing with 13 points.

Junior guard Micah Huffman hit four three-pointers for the Lions and finished with 14 points to lead his team. Senior guard Chris Rivens hit a trio of three-pointers and finished with 13 points.

It was the day after the victory over Covenant Day the team learned coach Quinton Hollis' daughter, Braylen, had succumbed after a hard three-year battle against leukemia. Originally planned for this weekend, a Celebration of Life for Braylen has been postponed due to the winter weather until Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Living Faith Tabernacle in Forest Park, Ga.
