Mt. Pleasant, SC - Welcome back Landsharks! I hope everyone had a great spring break!
It is hard to believe but we only have seven weeks, and a total of 32 classroom days, left in the 2025-26 school year.
This is the time when we all have to finish strong! Please talk with your child to make sure they are on top of their school-work as we head toward the finish line. We certainly don't want to see anyone get left behind down the stretch.
Giving Back
Ms. Beckham's college level Spanish classes took the opportunity to host an Easter Egg hunt for the children at Midland Park Primary School in North Charleston back before we went on break. OCA's students are so generous with their time and energy. The kids bought and hid the eggs themselves and some of them even wrote encouraging notes in Spanish and tucked them inside the hidden eggs!
Midland Park Primary is a school for grades 4K through second with a more than 50% Hispanic population and with 100% of students living at or below the poverty level.

Patriots Point Field Trip for DE History Students
From Lacie Rinehart
Adjunct Professor of History
Living in the Charleston area has many benefits for students in any type of history class. For our
Dual Enrollment students, it was important to show them living history in real time, making
history both fun and educational.
In going through both World War II and entering the Cold War, a trip to the Fighting Lady herself was a no-brainer. Working with Principal Lorenz and the Patriots Point Foundation, I was able to make this trip happen. With more than 50 students able to attend the Field Trip on April 2, they spent more than four hours looking at history come to life.
Students were able to see how soldiers lived, ate and survived aboard the USS Yorktown in the midst of war. With five other wonderful chaperones and myself, we covered the 872-foot aircraft carrier from aft to stern, part to starboard.
Before we left, we also explored the Vietnam Experience, giving students an insight into an active war zone during the Vietnam War.
The trip was a success, and I am hopeful we will be going again next year. I want to thank Coach Jones and Coach Hollis, Mrs.
Jennifer Ross, Mrs.
Katie Smit,and Ms.
Caroline Sobczak for chaperoning. I also want to thank Mr.
Brooks Barrineau for arranging our buses and Mr. Mike
Lorenz for assisting me in putting this together.
Carowinds Trip
The Friday going into spring break was the fun Carowinds trip! Ms. Cassell and a team of chaperones took a group of students to Charlotte for a day at Carowinds. What a great opportunity to celebrate all the hard work they have done and kick off their spring break.
Dual Enrollment
All students new to dual enrollment should have submitted an application to TTC for the 2026-27 school year. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to Mrs. Beckham at kbeckham@landsharks.org
